I went diving with John this past weekend, my first time with OQ. I just want to tell you that it was my best diving experience in Brunei ever so far! I have been with other companies and it literally was a nightmare. I was very nervous and apprehensive to get back into diving, but OQ did an incredible job of igniting my passion again. Thank you very much for that! John is patient, gentle, friendly, professional and made us all feel very safe on the boat and the dives. I can not imagine a better dive master than him! The food was excellent too. I really am excited about diving with you again.
I’ve dived with OQ twice and to my surprise their facilities are getting better. They have a new pool and sheltered BBQ pit with ample seating. We stayed at the dive centre and the rooms are spacious, clean and well maintained. The food servings are huge, varied, and most of all delicious. The staffs (Rona and team) are friendly and really helpful providing top-notch service. As for the dives, its well organized and they have a very experienced spotter named John who is from Lembeh. The owner (Steven) is very accommodating and manages the whole operation providing a 5-star service to his guests. I’ll be making more dive trips with OQ.
I first dived with Oceanic Quest (OQ) in 2012 and have returned to dive Brunei with them on at least 3 more occasions, the most recent being March this year (2019).
Over the years, Steven and his team have kept up their quality standards. The accommodations are just as clean, the staff attentive and accommodating to guests’ requests, and the dive service remains impeccable. OQ has grown with more boats and staff to meet the increased number of clients, but this has not led to a drop in service standards. The rooms are neat, clean and comfortable; the shared shower and washroom facilities are clean; the food is freshly prepared by the in-house chef; the guide to diver ratio remains low at maximum 1:4; Steven is just as warm as a host. And there is now a small pool as well as a small resident pooch (Blanket) for pet therapy if needed. The pooch is usually kept out of guest areas unless there is a request for her to be present.
OQ is a full-service operation from airport pick-up, dive service, and instruction, full-board accommodation, land tour facilitation, to airport drop-off. All one needs to do is clear the airport immigration at the start of the trip and check-in at the airport at the end of the trip. Everything in-between is/can be managed by OQ.
The OQ experience is akin to diving with good friends rather than with impersonal professionals providing a paid service. Mind you, the OQ staff are professional and efficient, but they are also genuinely warm people.
Is Brunei a good place to dive? If wrecks and macro-subjects interest you, then it’s a fantabulous place to dive.
